Dr. Aruna Abeyratne

Dr. Aruna Abeyratne

Dr. Aruna trained at the Belarusian State Medical University, graduating in 1992. He later completed postgraduate qualifications in Family Medicine and Psychology at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

He has over 20 years of experience as a General Practitioner and has also worked as a rural GP in Port Augusta prior to moving to Adelaide. In 2009, he formed a partnership with Dr Farooq Ahmad, contributing to the ongoing development of Martins Road Family Medical Practice.

Dr. Aruna is a Fellow of the RACGP and has completed further postgraduate training in Australia, including a Diploma of Child Health and the RACGP Fellowship. His areas of interest include depression, anxiety management, and diabetes care. He is also a clinical supervisor with the Adelaide to Outback GP Training Program and is involved in teaching GP registrars. He is fluent in Sinhalese and Russian.

Dr. Farooq Ahamd

Dr. Farooq Ahamd

Dr. Ahmad is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). He is a board member for the South Australia and Northern Territory branch of the RACGP, as well as the Northern Health Network.

He holds a postgraduate diploma in Family Medicine from South Africa and has 22 years of clinical experience, having worked across multiple countries. He is a supervisor with the GPEX GP Training Program and serves as a clinical examiner for both the RACGP and the Australian Medical Council (AMC).

Dr. Ahmad was awarded the McCleave Thompson Award from the RACGP in 2007 and has been working at Martins Road Family Medical since then. He is fluent in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and English.

Dr. Manique Abeyratne

Dr. Manique Abeyratne

Manique holds postgraduate qualifications in child health, family medicine, and psychology. She has worked in rural Australia and is currently a supervisor with the Adelaide to Outback GP Training Program.

She is a Fellow of the RACGP and has been practicing at Martins Road Family Medical since 2008. Her areas of interest include paediatrics, mental health, women’s health, and diabetes care; however, she enjoys all aspects of General Practice. She is fluent in Russian, Sinhalese and English.

Dr. Muhammad Shafiq Mughal

Dr. Muhammad Shafiq Mughal

Dr. Shafiq has over 30 years of experience in General Practice, having worked in South Africa, the Middle East, Pakistan, and Australia. He is committed to rural South Australia and has spent 12 years practising in Port Augusta, Whyalla, and Roxby Downs.His area of interest is chronic disease management; however, he enjoys all aspects of General Practice. He is fluent in Urdu, Punjabi and English.

Dr. Nor Anita Kushairi

Dr. Nor Anita Kushairi

Dr. Kushairi has been working in General Practice/Family Medicine since 1997. She graduated with an MBBS from the University of Malaya in 1992 and previously gained experience in paediatrics at General Hospital Malaysia before pursuing a specialty in Family Medicine/General Practice.

She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Malaysian Academy of Family Medicine (MAFM). Her areas of interest include paediatrics and chronic disease management; however, she enjoys all aspects of General Practice. She is fluent in Malay and English.

Dr. Shasanka Gamage

Dr. Shasanka Gamage

Dr. Gamage is a country-based GP who has worked in Waikerie for nearly a year and has been with Martins Road Family Medical Practice since September 2016. She has 9 years of overseas experience in both general practice and hospital medicine.

Her areas of interest include chronic disease management, women’s health, and mental health; however, she enjoys all aspects of General Practice. She is fluent in Sinhalese and English.

Dr. Matheesh Abeyratne

Dr. Matheesh Abeyratne

Dr. Matheesh graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He practices across all areas of family medicine, with particular interests in iron infusions, chronic disease management, aged care, and mental health.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, playing sports, and composing music. He is fluent in Sinhalese and English.

Dr. Baz Khanum Safdari

Dr. Baz Khanum Safdari

Dr. Baz graduated from the University of Notre Dame Fremantle in 2017 and completed her internship and residency at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Royal Adelaide Hospital, and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Her areas of interest include women’s health, paediatrics, mental health, and chronic disease management; however, she has a keen interest in all areas of General Practice. She is fluent in Dari, Farsi and English.

Dr. John Au

Dr. John Au

Dr. John completed his medical degree with honours at The University of Adelaide. He has worked across a range of tertiary and regional hospitals, including the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, Port Augusta Hospital, Wallaroo Hospital, and Berri Hospital.

His special interests include chronic disease management, men’s health, skin checks, preventative medicine, and children’s health; however, he enjoys all aspects of General Practice. He is fluent in English. In his spare time, he enjoys walking his Spoodle, “Poppy.”

Dr. Kesh Weerawarna

Dr. Kesh Weerawarna

Dr. Kesh completed his medical training at Monash University before returning to his home state of Adelaide to practice. He has gained broad experience across multiple departments at Lyell McEwin and Modbury Hospitals, supporting a well-rounded approach to patient care.

His areas of interest include paediatrics, women’s and men’s health, and chronic disease management; however, he enjoys all aspects of General Practice. He is also experienced in iron infusions and minor skin biopsy procedures.

Dr. Kesh is passionate about building connections within the local community and is comfortable managing a wide range of presentations. Outside of medicine, he enjoys camping, road trips, and is an avid movie enthusiast. He is fluent in Sinhalese and English.

Dr. Roopa Halagali (Registrar)

Dr. Roopa Halagali (Registrar)

Dr. Roopa has a diverse medical background with qualifications in Anaesthesiology and extensive experience across hospitals in India and Australia. She has worked with SA Health for 8 years in ICU and Anaesthetics before transitioning into General Practice.

She has experience in acute care, including leading Code Blue teams, and has developed a strong understanding of the Australian healthcare system. Dr Roopa values diversity and multiculturalism and is committed to patient safety and a holistic approach to care.

Her areas of interest include acute and chronic pain management. Her approach to practice is shaped by her experiences as a woman and mother, contributing to her empathetic style of care. She is fluent in Hindi and English.

Dr. Jasveen Kaur (Registrar)

Dr. Jasveen Kaur (Registrar)

Dr. Jasveen is a dedicated and experienced medical practitioner with a strong background across multiple specialties. Since 2019, she has worked at Lyell McEwin and Modbury Hospitals, gaining experience in Upper GI, general medicine, paediatrics, and emergency medicine.

She has completed a General Year at NALHN and an Extended Skills Term in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, strengthening her confidence in managing antenatal and gynaecological care. She also completed her GPT1 term at Blair Athol Medical Centre, where she developed procedural skills including vaginal swabs, cervical screening (Pap smears), Implanon insertions, skin biopsies, and suturing.

Dr. Jasveen holds a Master’s degree in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) from India. She is known for her strong communication skills, attention to detail, and patient-centred approach, and is committed to ongoing professional development to provide high-quality care. She is fluent in Hindi, Punjabi and English.

Dr. Nadeeka Ramanayake (registrar)

Dr. Nadeeka is a medical practitioner with extensive experience practicing in both Sri Lanka and Australia. She has worked across diverse clinical settings, managing a broad range of medical presentations within multicultural communities. She is committed to patient-centred care, ongoing professional development, and maintaining high standards of clinical practice. She is fluent in Sinhalese and English.

Dr. Asmita Dhatrak (Registrar)

Dr. Asmita Dhatrak (Registrar)

Dr. Asmita has extensive experience in the Australian healthcare system, having worked across tertiary and rural regional hospitals in Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia.

She began her career at Mildura Base Hospital, where she worked in General Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics, and Psychiatry. She later continued working in Emergency Departments at Mildura Base Hospital, Lyell McEwin Hospital, Bunbury Hospital, Royal Adelaide Hospital, and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, managing patients across all disciplines.

She holds an Emergency Medicine Certificate from the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and is currently pursuing a Graduate Diploma in Child Health. She has also completed Semester 1 of the Graduate Diploma in Health Promotion at Deakin University, Melbourne. She is fluent in Hindi and English.
